New ‘Assistina 3 x 3’ cleans inside and outProper cleaning and sterilization of handpieces are two of the most important tasks in any dental practice.

In the past, this required laborious hand cleaning and lubrication of individual handpieces and turbines. However, this was both time con-

suming and failed to reliably clean the instruments inside and out.

Now W&H has released a totally new system that quickly cleans both inside

and the outside of instruments prior to sterilization; and also effectively lubri-cates in the one simple operation.

The new ‘Assistina 3 x 3’ is the only automated handpiece maintenance unit to provide an independently validated process for thorough internal and external cleaning and lubrication of turbines and straight and contra-angle handpieces.

W&H Product Manger, at A-dec, Shal Hafiz, said it was important that gross

contamination and biofilm was removed from both the inside

and outside of instruments for steam sterilization to be

effective. After cleaning, instru-ments must be effec-

tively lubricated to ensure long life and the smooth and quiet operation of high speed moving parts to prevent premature wear and vibration. Up to three instru-ments at a time can be completely processed in just six minutes by the Assistina 3 x 3, and then processed in a Lisa Fully Automatic sterilizer in just 20 minutes. This

validated cleaning process conforms to the

European Swissmedic and Robert Koch Institute recom-

mendations, and dramatically streamlines instrument processing

in the dental practice, allowing staff to concentrate on their patients.Three-step processThe Assistina 3x3 uses the following three-step process to prepare turbines and straight and contra-angle handpiec-es for sterilization:

1. Automatic internal cleaningDuring internal cleaning, the spray channels and gearing components of the instruments are cleaned with the special W&H ActiveFluid cleaning solution. Spray channels and gearing components are blow-dried to remove residues of cleaner. The thorough cleaning ensures that instruments operate correctly throughout their service lives.

2. Automatic external cleaning W&H ActiveFluid cleaning solution is sprayed directly onto all instruments one by one. After allowing the cleaning solution to work for a short time, the instruments are blow-dried.

Removing organic deposits ensures the safety of patients and staff, and in combination with effective sterilization in a Lisa Class B sterilizer, guarantees perfect preparation.

3. Automatic internal lubrication. Immediately following cleaning and prior to removal from the unit, the internal gearing components automatically receive a precise amount of W&H’s pat-ented F1 Service Oil for trouble-free and quiet operation of the handpiece.

The Assistina 3 x 3 is suitable for straight and contra-angle handpieces, turbines, air motors and air-driven scal-ers. Operating the unit is as simple as a press of a button, with no special training of clinical staff required.
