OVERVIEWLaparoscopy is gaining the attention of a lot of people lately, despite its increasing public awareness, there is still a remain huge population that is having its first encounter with the name of the surgery. Also, those who have heard about it have a lot of confusion regarding the surgical process.

Commonly known as the minimally invasive surgery the laparoscopy started as a simple procedure for sterilization in females, but now it has expanded its horizon. Now it is has replaced open surgery for so many cases.

Experts advise patients to go under diagnostic laparoscopy surgery for the following conditions-

• endometriosis

• ectopic pregnancy

• ovarian cysts

• Dr. Valeria Simone MD is one of the experienced surgeons at Southlake General Surgery and the best person to explain the advantages of Laparoscopy over open surgery.

• Precision

• Laparoscopy is a safer alternative when compared to open surgery. The surgery is performed with the help of a long probe with a camera that is inserted into the abdominal cavity with the help of small incisions. The camera provides visibility on inner organs during surgery enabling the surgeon to perform surgery with greater precision than that in open surgery.

• Incisions

• The Laparoscopy is performed by making three small incisions about 1-2 inches long, in the open surgery the cuts are longer.

• Safety of the patient

• The safety of the patient is the best feature of laparoscopy. The blood loss, pain, and trauma that a patient has to suffer after the open surgery are greatly reduced with laparoscopic surgery. Other than that, the patient suffers less time in medical care, the patient also recovers faster.
