WHAT IS AN

INPUT DEVICE?

Input devices are used to transform user actions or commands into electronic signals that are understood by computers.

An input device is a hardware or peripheral device. This device is used to send data to a computer.

:::::::Input devices help users to communicate and feed data into computers for processing.

A touch screen is an electronic visual display

a user can control by touching the screen

with one or more fingers.

Touch screens are a more direct interaction with the computer and the activity.

Touch screens are becoming more common as a means of input interaction. This is mostly in part because the touch screen technology has become less expensive to manufacture.

● Output Devices used in EHR: An output device is a piece of electronic equipment that is attached to a computer and receives data from it.  This data information can be used by the output device for display, projection, or physical reproduction. For example, a computer monitor is an output device which displays an image that is received from the computer.

● Dot Matrix- printhead pins strike inked printer ribbon to produce image on paper,impact heads on carbon ribbon, used to produce multiple copy standard forms , poor image quality

● Ink Jet - print head sprays ink  on paper to produce images, cartridge, inexpensive, good home use, fast, cartridges used

● Laser - most common, large scale, superior  quality printing, laser beam produce heat and toner seals images, fast, good DPI, usually black but can get color  toner for color copies

● Thermal- heated print heads on thermal sensitive paper, quick, print admitting wristbands, small portable.

HYBRID WORKFLOWS

Hybrid workflows are systems that use both hardcopy health record and electronic health record (EHR).

::::::A hybrid health record (HHR) is

documentation of person's health information that is tracked in multiple formats and stored in multiple places.

It is challenging to have hybrid health records because the records administrator must use both manual and electronic processes to determine which data elements, electronic documents, images, audio, and video files should become part of the legal EHR.

They must also document where the information in the record is located so it can be accessed quickly.
