Hepatitis in India• It is estimated that there are more than 25 and 40 million people living

with Hepatitis B or C (Viral Hepatitis) viruses respectively.• This silent diseases which is blood-borne is growing rapidly in the country

mainly because of unsafe injection practices • The biggest hurdle in dealing with this epidemic in the country is the lack

of accurate numbers and identification of cases.

• National Liver Foundation & Aequitas Cunsulting wised to shift focus and the attention on looming hepatitis (B,C) epidemic in India

• Educating people about the deadly disease, its prevention, symptoms and right treatment methods through media

• Creating an advocacy for government, industry and public to come together in the fight against Hepatitis in India.

• Highlighting the need of improving health systems and infrastructure for effective tackling of the disease.

• Highlighting the need of providing effective treatments, including facilitating availability of promotion of cheaper yet quality medication for Hepatitis B &C.

Measurable Results• Media extensively supported the cause and highlighted major issues around it• Impactful media focus on cheaper medication and vaccination in order to control & prevent hepatitis• Stories on foreign drug which costs in Lakhs and use of India made drug instead which has the same effect and the cost

more than half of its foreign counterpart• Increased awareness about factors responsible for the rise of Hepatitis epidemic• Extensive national and regional media coverage on World Hepatitis Day
