Impetigo is a Bacterial Infection

 Large  fluid  filled  blisters,  appearing  clear  at  first,  then  cloudy.  The  blisters  tend  to  remain  intact  for  a  longer  period  of

Impe9go  effects  3  million  people  in  the  U.S.  every  year.    It  is  highly  contagious  and  spreads  mainly  through  social  

contact.  Toys,  towels,  clothing  ,  bedding,  and  other  objects  are  all  ways  to  contract  impe9go.    

2-­‐5%  of  streptococcal  infec9ons  result  in  Post-­‐Streptococcal  glomerulonephri9s.  A  severe  kidney  disease  caused  by  bacterial  toxins.  Signs  include  urine  changes,  body  swelling,  nausea  or  headaches.      

The  infec9on  can  evolve  into  ecthyma.  Ecthyma,  in  extreme  cases  affects  deeper  layers  of  skin.  It  can  become  very  itchy  which  could  lead  to  spreading  and  scarring.
