• In some males the sperm count or quality is very low or sometimes even nil, therefore they would not succeed with IVF which requires normal semen parameters. To achieve fertilization the egg is injected with single sperm and this technique is called Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

What Happens During the IUI Procedure?

• During the procedure the doctor will put the semen through a special “washing” procedure.

• A catheter – a small, thin tube – will be placed in the cervix. • The specially washed semen will then be transferred into the

uterus via the catheter.• The catheter is then removed.
