There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 which means your body does

not produce any insulin and Type 2 which means your body does not

produce enough insulin or does not use the insulin properly. The most

common type is Type 2. This type can be caused by: stress,

inadequate exercise and a poor diet. This type is covered in this How

To. Unfortunately, Type 1 cannot be prevented or cured. It is

impossible to prevent it, as it occurs naturally by genetic problems in

some people's bodies.

Type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas, which creates insulin, stops

working. Type 2 diabetes means your cells has begun to resist insulin

and has stopped utilizing insulin created. Insulin is a hormone which

lets sugar from your blood into the parts of your body which require it.

When this vital hormone is missing or your cells cannot absorb insulin

properly, sugar builds up in your blood, which causes you to get ill.

Some people (Type 1) require an injection of insulin to control the

sugar, while others need a tablet -- or just diet and exercise (Type 2).

Everyone with diabetes needs to have a healthy diet - and this is also

what helps goes a long way to help prevent the occurrence of Type 2

diabetes

1 Get at least 30 minutes of exercise nearly every day. For

example walking around your neighborhood each day is a good idea.

The key is to use large muscle groups. You could also try going to the

gym a couple of times a week.

Page 4: How To Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

2 Eat a balanced diet. Eat a little from each food group, and not

too much of the bad stuff - like sugar, salt, fat, especially meat fats

and partially saturated (or called hydrogenated) vegetable fats. Avoid

eating processed foods, with a myriad of unnatural chemicals and

artificial or chemical preservatives. Say "I can live without those!" Watch the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Your doctor or

dietitian can give you a diet plan with the amount of carbohydrate,

protein and fat you need each day. Follow their advice, and avoid fad

diets which will only cause more trouble.

Eat Slowly to avoid overeating. It takes about 20 minutes for your

stomach to send a signal to your brain that you are full. In that lag, you

may eat too much, far more than you need.

Page 5: How To Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

3 Drink plenty of water, because your body needs water. Water is

better than any other drink. Water also fills you up so your desire to

eat decreases.

4 Maintain a healthy weight by eating healthful foods and

avoiding junk food.Eating slowly helps prevent overeating by

getting you satisfied with less food. Our sensor in the brain (In the

hypothalamus) needs about 20 minutes to get the satiety signal; we

can get full, even bloated and continue eating because we still feel

hungry. Slow down.

5 Do not smoke, drink alcohol or take habit forming drugs

(tobacco and alcohol are legal drugs).

Page 8: How To Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

6 Never get pressured into eating anything or getting off your

regime or routine and never get stressed by your program to live

with diabetes. There are only a few times you can get allow yourself

to be stressed.

7 Ask your doctor about lowering your blood sugar and the

need for insulin or snacks for your sleep (night or day): not eating

other than light protein snack near bedtime, especially stopping non-

essential nutrients 2 or 3 hours before your sleep-time, drinking only

water (not alcohol, no caffeine or other stimulants) at such times,

telling yourself: "That food will be here tomorrow!" Realize, those late-night snacks should be a no-no for people who

have diabetes, per Mayo Clinic article.[1]

Hungry after dinner -- these "free" foods have few, if any,

carbohydrates and calories, so "one" of them won't cause weight gain

or increased blood sugar.Choose a "free" food, such as:[1]

A low-carb, preferably, non-carbonated drink

Page 10: How To Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

A serving of sugar-free gelatin

Five baby carrots

Two saltine crackers

One vanilla wafer

Four almonds (or similar nuts)

One piece of gum or small hard candy

Give your nerves, liver and the digestive system time to finish work,

and to rest and for general recovery, from the sugar produced by

[continuing] digestion when asleep;

Stop blood sugar being unnecessarily elevated during sleep.

Stop fats or sugars being processed all night in the liver (and allow in-

digestion to clear, as well).

8 Sleep (on an almost empty stomach!) -- get 6, preferably 7 or

more hours of sleep for recovery time for the nerves and all other

systems to settle and rest. This will lower your diabetes problems, i.e.:

blood sugar levels [and improve your blood pressure]. If you need help sleeping, (1) try the one antihistamine to cause

drowsiness that does not cause higher blood pressure (HBP), as

cheap as $4 for 100 (as Equate brand 'Chlortabs'): it is

chlorpheniramine maleate -- also sold as 'Chlortrimeton' and as

'Corcidin-HBP'. (Do not use any sugary antihistamine syrups.) (2)

Taking Valerian as a highly relaxant herb -- helps with sleep and is

especially known to reduce body aches and pains. If you wake up too

early, drink water and take another dose of both, if four hours or more

have passed since the first dose. (3) Take calcium with magnesium

and vitamin D3 and B-vitamins, Omega3, Omega3-6-9 which all work

together, causing much improved relaxation and many other healthful

benefits! (4) A "small serving of protein food" helps sleep -- such as

plain turkey or chicken, and do eat almonds (have more fiber!),

walnuts, pecans, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, pistachios, red

peanuts with skins-on (also, those kinds of seeds and all nuts have

essential oils!).

Tips

Eating slowly helps prevent overeating; to keep food from getting cold

look for a plate for eating slowly (they keep hot food from getting cold)

Eat Mediterranean style: mushrooms, onions, garlic, olive oil,

tomatoes, spices, avocados, fish, veggies, very lean meats, hard

cheese.

Eat complex carbohydrates: carrots, whole grain cereal,

whole/multigrain bread, yams; enjoy fresh or dried fruits.

Recent research found that grapefruit can be extremely helpful in

fighting obesity and preventing type 2 diabetes.

Warnings

Do not drink canned juices or those containing a small percent of

juices, which are mostly sugar, flavorings and water.

Avoid using margarine, shortenings and other food products

containing those fats which are disguised, also being called partially

saturated or hydrogenated oils because, the form of fats has been

changed by processing, becoming harmful to the liver and other

systems.

Avoid canned fruit juices because the heat used when they're canned

breaks down substances in them, as with the artificial sweeteners.

Thus they become harmful to the liver and other cells, which have to

Page 14: How To Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

detoxify the blood, just as also happens with broken down artificial

sweeteners.

Avoid all high fructose sugars found in soft drinks and in juice drinks,

which along with artificial sweeteners break down due to heat and

during digestion into substances in them, which are quite unhealthful

to the liver, in the broken forms.

o Diet sodas/soft drinks which having lost their sweetness are harmful:

containing aspartame, they have broken down in hot truck or

warehouse and can cause serious illnesses, especially overtime.

Never drink such drinks.
