What is Angioplasty?
A non-surgical procedure with no cuts or stitch
It unblocks the narrowed or blocked arteries
Done in the cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
(Cath-lab) by the team of cardiologist and vascular
surgeons

Balloon Angioplasty
A balloon-tipped catheter is used to make space for blood flow in
the artery.

Stent Angioplasty
Either small bare metal
mesh tube or drug coated
tube, called stent is placed
in the artery for smooth
blood flow.

Cutting Balloon Angioplasty
In case restenosis (recurrence of artery or valve narrowing after
corrective surgery), the cutting balloon catheter with 3-5small blades at
tip is used to clear plaque on artery wall.

Recovery after Angioplasty
Hospital stay of about 1-2 days
Start walking within 2-6 hours
Return to normal activities in a week
Avoid physical activities, strenuous work or any kind of weight
lifting for about two weeks
Gradual exercise regime as recommended by your doctor
To prevent reoccurrence of the disease, maintain a healthy
lifestyle minus smoking, high cholesterol diet and weight gain
