DR. ROHIT VARMA IS A BOARD-CERTIFIED OPHTHALMOLOGIST
• Dr. Rohit Varma is a board-certified ophthalmologist and
experienced physician-scientist who has made significant
contributions to the understanding of glaucoma and other eye
disorders through his clinical and academic work. His
epidemiological findings have aided physicians in improving the
prognosis of glaucoma patients, and he has led efforts to better
understand and resolve glaucoma risk factors.
DR. ROHIT VARMA HAS DEDICATED HIS ENTIRE CAREER TO PREVENTING
VISION LOSS AND BLINDNESS.
• Dr. Rohit Varma has dedicated his entire professional life to
the prevention of vision loss, blindness, and other preventable
causes of visual impairment. Designing preventive strategies for
the elimination of cataract blindness in South Asia is his main
area of research interest.
DR. ROHIT VARMA'S GROUNDBREAKING WORK IN THE FIELDS OF
EXPERIMENTAL GLAUCOMA.
• Dr. Rohit Varma's groundbreaking work in the fields of
experimental glaucoma, laser surgery, and prosthesis implants is
responsible for much of what we know about glaucoma today. Dr.
Varma's research contributed to the development of an intraocular
lens implant that is commonly used in the United States and other
major countries. His achievements have been recognized with a slew
of professional honors.
DR. ROHIT VARMA CHAIRED THE DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY
• Dr. Rohit Varma chaired the Department of Ophthalmology and
was the founding director of the USC Eye Institute. He was based in
California and assisted in the creation of a network of eye care
providers throughout the state.

• Dr. Rohit Varma is the newly endowed ocular research chair. He
worked with the Leprosy Mission in India after finishing his
residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute, then returned to Johns
Hopkins for a master's degree in public health. Dr. Rohit Varma has
previously held the position of associate dean for strategic
planning.
