The results of RISE at BMAVV speak for themselves: 20% of residents attend the gym daily 3184 heath coaching appointments made (2012/2013) 2230hrs of fitness classes undertaken with 15,380 attendees 15-20 people attending educational seminars weekly A RISE HLC is available at the gym through all opening hours (04:00 to 21:00), meaning that no matter what their roster every resident is provided the opportunity to receive personal and professional assistance in achieving their health goals. Having an HLC present at all times and through the creation of a separate workout area, the gym has also become a place where women, first time users and those who are a little shy can feel comfortable working out and sharing a space with the more avid gym goers. “As much as I’d like to be home every night, if I have to stay away, this camp here is by far the best, excellent and friendly staff, and by having the gym and the very helpful team to train me it keeps me interested and wanting to go more.” Michael Abela, BMAAV Caval Ridge

In July 2012, RISE was launched at BMAVV with a 2 day celebration of fitness, fun and education.

Day one started off with the opening of the Gym and the first group class - Boxing (with our very own National Health and Lifestyle Manager and former Cruiserweight boxing champ Steve Roberts) and other group classes and fitness training were provided throughout the day.

Residents got their first glimpse at the new and improved gym layout and all those that joined received a gym membership pack with drink bottle, towel and stretching poster.

The gym itself was filled with motivational posters, educational pamphlets and stretching routines to get people started.

Residents were introduced to the on-site HLC’s and fitness and coaching appointments were booked.

That evening residents were treated to presentations from guest speakers Allan Forsyth (ex. SAS) and Olympian Tatiana Gregoriava – both of who joined in the BBQ dinner and live music entertainment which allowed for photo opportunities with the guest and that all important ‘Olympic medal’.

The second day kicked off with more group classes and more new memberships. The launch day finished with our guest speakers providing a tool box presentation to CCS staff and taking part in the morning activity - lawn bowls in Moranbah.

The RISE program isn’t just restricted to

the gym.

Each morning RISE HLC’s visit the crib

areas of BMA, Thiess, VIVO and Bechtel (in

the past) to provide employees with a pre-

start stretching routine. Pre-start stretching

is a crucial component to risk mitigation

strategies it allows employees to get ready

for the day ahead – although a routine, the

stretching is conducted in such a way that

employees engage with one another and

everyone enters the workday relaxed.

Due to the differing rosters and long

shifts experienced on a mine-site team

building and social interactions between

employees can provide increase morale

and a more productive workforce – RISE

HLC’s have conducted a number of team

building experiences with BMA and other

clients onsite including Volleyball, Boot

Camps and an inter-camp Touch Football

and Soccer competition between Daunia,

BMAVV and MAV2 employees.
