2016 Regional Caregivers Of The Year Exemplify A Higher Standard

Every year, we invite clients and families to share their stories of how a BrightStar Care Caregiver went above and beyond the call of duty to deliver A Higher Standard of Care and nominate them for our Caregiver of the Year award. Hundreds of nominations pour in from across the country filled with heartwarming and inspiring stories of how our Caregivers have made a lasting impact on the lives they have touched. They are the face – and heart – of our brand.

We are honored to announce and celebrate our four Regional Caregivers of the Year for 2016. Read on for highlights of each regional winner.

She gratefully states, “Javier’s maturity, sense of humor, and work ethic have allowed him to expand [my son’s] world while he remains vigilant about protecting [his] well-being and safety.”

JAVIER LAGUNAS – 2016 WEST REGION CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR BRIGHTSTAR CARE OF NEWPORT BEACH/IRVINE (CA)

Javier’s nomination came from a mother of an adult son living with a traumatic brain injury that has caused cognitive as well as physical deficits requiring 24-hour care.

She describes how her husband beamed every day when Elsa walked through the door, how they “became fast friends and developed their own communication system,” and how Elsa supported her after her husband’s passing earlier this year.

ELSA SALGUERO – 2016 MIDWEST REGION CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR BRIGHTSTAR CARE OF CENTRAL DUPAGE-WHEATON (IL)

A client’s wife lovingly shared her story of how Elsa cared for him after a severe stroke that left him unable to speak among other challenges.

The letter is full of wonderful details about how Jeanne’s creativity and special bond with her mom allowed her to rise above some of the challenges Alzheimer’s disease can bring. She also notes, “Jeanne has taught me about dementia, about caregivers, and about life…Jeanne helps me remember and to see the beauty that is still there and that will always be there.”

JEANNE MCCUTCHEON – 2016 SOUTHEAST REGION CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR BRIGHTSTAR CARE OF LOUISVILLE EAST (KY)The daughter of the client nominated Jeanne for her outstanding care for her mother living with dementia.

KATHY CARTER – 2016 NORTHEAST REGION CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR BRIGHTSTAR CARE OF BALTIMORE CITY/COUNTY (MD)

Kathy received two glowing nominations validating her exceptional care. One came from the daughter of a client who

describes how Kathy has helped alleviate some of the stress of being the primary family caregiver for her mother and served as a role model for other caregivers who support her mother as well. The second nomination came from a paraplegic client who compliments Kathy on her attention to detail and doing things the way he likes as well as her positive energy and constant smiles. He says, “I’m always happier when she walks into my room!”
