This has prompted a growing number of companies to offer meditation in the workplace to aid in the health of the employees and to lower stress. Companies come up with meditation based stress reduction programs to address the increasing cost of stress-related health conditions and to develop a more cost- effective plan of action tailored to the working environment.

Although there may be other ways to relieve stress in the workplace, such as physical exercise, gym sessions, team-buildings or corporate parties, meditation is something that we can squeeze into our daily busy schedules. Employees don’t have to commit much time and could meditate and reflect even at their work stations.

Studies show that workers who engaged in at least 10-20 minutes of meditation per day reported less stress and better sleeping patterns. Meditation builds happiness, positive outlook on life, increased ability to focus and mental resilience.

This is a simple meditation that you can do at work for 10-20 minutes:

1. Find a meditation station or a quiet location where you can reflect.

2. Sit comfortably on a pillow, on a chair or on the floor.

3. Bring your attention inward to your breathing, while in a sitting position.

4. With eyes closed, be aware of any tension in your body and let it go.

5. Immerse in your mind and thoughts and just  allow them to come and go.

6. Breath in a normal rhythmic pace.

7. Try to focus your own attention on your heartbeat.

8. Observe the strengthening connection with your body as you deeply inhale and feel every detail of your breathing and exhale out.

 9. Notice every detail of breathing, every detail of living and being alive in that very moment.  Let all your other thoughts come and go without any feelings associated with them.

10. Repeat the above procedures and try to keep a calm and positive mind with you for the rest of the day.
