Definition:
•These are a bunch of lymph nodes in the throat behind the nose.

Functions of adenoids
• They are the warriors against body infections; because they are Antibody producing organs.
• Adenoids & Tonsils are the “first line of defence”.
• Normally, they shrink by the age of 8-10 yrs; and further disappear in adulthood.

Frequent bouts of throat infection
Adenoids enlarge in size; even upto the size of a ping pong ball

• Required Tests are:i. X-ray of the Nasopharynx lateral
viewii. Diagnostic endoscopy Both tests are essential .

Treatment protocol• Conservative treatment focusing on:a) Stop the infection and further prevent it.b) Medicines for reducing the size of adenoids (decongestants)c) Improving the child’s immune status

PROBABLE COMPLICATIONS AFTER SURGERY
•Stenosis : occurs as a secondary to Nasopharyngeal scarring•Eustachean Tube Injury•Grisel Syndrome( atlanto axial subluxation): occurs if Infection occurs in Nasopharynx after the surgery.
•Bleeding•VPI: Velo Pharyngeal Insufficiency: due to loss of tome of palatal muscles.•Torticollis: due to injury to Superior Constrictor Muscles•Nasopharyngeal
