Ways to Eat Healthily

It is a universally accepted fact that if you wish to maintain robust health, you must eat only healthy food. Eating healthy food does not necessarily mean you should be on a permanent diet program. On the contrary, healthy eating simply means eating the right kind of food, in right quantities and at the right time.

To be more precise, you should have a heavy breakfast, moderate lunch and a frugal dinner. This concept of healthy eating means you should consume as much nutrients as your body needs and avoid fancy food that has no nutritional value.

Most people are accustomed to having three meals a day – of these the breakfast is very important and should never be skipped. You can occasionally skip lunch or dinner, but not eating your breakfast can result in unwanted health complications including obesity and malnutrition.

Make sure your breakfast menu has all the nutrients your system needs like whole eggs, bacon, whole wheat bread, and fruit juice. Most health care experts opine breakfast should contain some sort of fruit - grapefruit, banana, apple or orange, it is vital to get at least three servings of fruit at your breakfast.

As regards lunch, it is preferable not to over-eat much since you have already received the much needed energy from your breakfast. Besides, most office-goers and business people seldom get the time to indulge in physical activity after lunch and the food takes much longer to digest. A heavy lunch can also lead to drowsiness and an unhealthy afternoon nap.

However, if you are terribly hungry at night and in need of a full meal, at least try to eat a few hours before bedtime to allow your system to digest food.

Whole vegetables have lots of vitamins and minerals, so eat more green, orange and yellow vegetables. Steam them to retain the nutritional value and, in any case, avoid frying them. Baked fish and chicken are any day healthier than fried ones and lean meats like bison or venison may be healthier than higher fat beef. You can however have good quantity of fish if you are fond of sea food.

Eat sparingly sugary snacks, cakes and other confectionary items and make it a point to consume them only during festival time. If you can give up the temptation to eat desserts after every meal, the healthier you will be. However, remember to eat a variety of foods to obtain all types of vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy.

Please know processed meats, hot dogs, bacon, and sausages contain a lot of saturated fat and nitrates your body can do without. If you love these types of food, you can find healthier versions of them available in health food stores.

As regards beverages, drink plenty of water, milk and pure fruit and vegetable juices and avoid, as far as possible aerated soft drinks. If you dislike plain water, you may add a slice of lemon to create a pleasant flavor. You will be doing yourself a great service if you restrict the intake of tea and coffee.
