Fractures
• Fracture Is a break in a bone.• Pathological fracture is a fracture in a diseased bone • A fatigue or stress fracture is a due repeated minor
trauma for example : long –distance marching or running
Types of fracture:
• Greenstick is a fracture in a young, soft bone in which the bone bends and partially breaks
• Displaced bone break in which two ends of a fractured bone are separated and out of their normal positions
• Comminuted one in which the bone is splintered or crushed.• Impacted in which one fragment is firmly driven into the
other• Open ( compound) in which a wound through the adjacent or
overlying soft tissues communicates with the site of the break.
Treatment of fractures
• When the fragment of a broken bone heal and join together, they unite
• Union may be promoted or helped , by reducing the fracture
• After reduction , excesive movement of the broken bone is prevented by fixation
