Introduction to Trends•The ECAT monitor takes one 30 second recordings every 10 minutes. These recordings are called trends.
• The trends are what create the Atrial Fibrillation burden.
• The daily summary report cannot generate until the trend has been completed.
• Every trend must be scanned by a technician for verification.
The Trend Log
Double Click on ECAT
After double clicking on ECAT, this window will
appear.
Select desired date.
Select not signed
Select trend from the
dropdown box
Viewing the Trend
Change filter from ‘None’ to
15 Hz
Turn on or off the A-Fib detection appropriately.
You can turn all A-Fib ‘on’ or ‘off’ by right clicking in this window
Turn the heart rate measurements on
Click the “blue guy” to expose the patient’s information

Promoting Trends• Review the trend by highlighting the first trend of the day and hitting the arrow down key on your keyboard• At least one 30 second strip a day must be promoted from each trend (unless it is a special criteria account).• Pick trends with ectopy, abnormalities, fast rates or slow rates.• Condense your trends try to show what is needed in as few strips as possible.• Check the box next to the ones you want to promote• Click the edit icon• Interpret rhythm and ectopy in the rhythm comments. Ex…SINUS RHYTHM/PAC’S• Close trend and edit the “outside” box with an overall interpretation of that whole days trends.
Interpretation of all Trends for the day for that particular
patient.
Input tech initials into then Operator section and then
click close.
Processing an Abnormal Trend
• If the trend is identified as abnormal according the ECAT physician notification criteria
select 30 second trend in question and interpret.• Complete the remainder of the trend• Immediately email [email protected]. In the subject
line of the email type the Patient’s initials followed by their ID #. In the body of the email include:
– Patient’s full name, ID #, and Date of Birth– Date and Time of Trend– Findings
End of Shift Email
• Once assignment is complete for the day complete email with the following information to [email protected].
• Anyone with Atrial Fibrillation• Any trends that are suboptimal
