The eight Millennium Development Goals range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015. They were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000. They were agreed to by 181 governments and all the world’s leading development institutions.
