• Definition of skin: It is the largest organ of the body.
Layers of the skin.
• Epidermis: It is the outermost area and composed of epithelial cells. The Epidermis consist of four or five distinctive layers.
• Dermis: underlying layer and composed mainly of fibrous connective tissue. The Dermis has two layer- the papillary and the reticular
• Extreme stretching of the skin can tear the dermis commonly called “stretch marks”

Functions of the skin.
• Body temperature regulation.• Excrete toxic substance from the body.• Sensory response (touch, heat, cold and etc.)• Formation of vitamin.• Protection against diseases.• Blood reservoir.
• The study of the skin is called dermatology.• Physician of the skin called Dermatologist.
Chronic skin conditions
• Dermatitis: Inflammation of the skin.
• Eczema: Inflammation of the of the skin causing an itchy rash.
• Psoriasis: A skin disease marked by red, itchy, scaly patches.
• Rosacea: Condition in which certain facial blood vessels enlarge
• Acne: the occurance of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands
Skin Injuries
• Blisters• Bruises• Burn• Cuts• Scrapes• Sunburn
Skin Cancer
• Melanoma: Cause by over exposure to UV-light. Common treatment is by surgery to remove the melanoma.
• Nonmelanoma: Consist of the Squamous cell cancer and the Basal cell cancer.
Cancer Prevention.
• Try to stay out of the sun during middle of the day.
• Use protective clothes.• Use sunscreen.• Avoid excessive sunbath and tanning.
