I was recently commissioned by a leading newspaper in Davao to do an arJcle on top ten youthening foods. Filipinos need not fret that the list I came up with comprises mostly of far-‐out items from exoJc origin. MarkeJng and buzz hype a couple of the items in the list but you’ll be surprised to find that a lot can be found right in your neighbourhood market. I’ll share the full arJcle once published. Needless to say, go organic as much as you can!
Lastly, we are very excited to update that the new Sugarleaf Express, a showcase of more things healthy is nearing compleJon and will be open mid-‐April. This deserves a special eLeaf which will introduce our new partners in health and wellness.
All the best!

From the Sugarleafers
As Sugarleaf embarks on its second year, let us give back by sharing a list of Jps and informaJon that helps you on your journey to beHer health. We reiterate that it need not be a struggle to eat healthy. The key is not to be too serious about it and have fun!
We would like to thank our loyal customers for their kind and encouraging words which inspire us to work harder. Some of them are listed in this eLeaf.
Sugarleaf’s “limitlist”
Though we do not outright discourage people to completely do a 180⁰ and stop eaJng their favourite fare (who doesn’t love lechon and a Coke Zero?), we do have a list of “foods” that we recommend be limited. Here’s a lowdown of that list and the reason why:
• MSG & foods that contain excessive amounts of this potenJally neuro-‐ toxic substance • Heavily processed & fasfood–high fat, sodium & virtually devoid of nutrients • Refined white any thing from sugar,
wheat, rice, bread. Go for higher-‐ fibre & nutrient brown less refined unbleached counterparts • GMOs in food. Care for “frankenfood”? • BoHomless drinks & all-‐you-‐can-‐eat buffets. Need we explain?
Yes to more fruit No to junkfood

The EVA Charity FoundaJon (www.evacf.org) and NaJonal Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) recently held a visit to the DAP School for a delegaJon from the Embassy of Australia. The visit to Abucay, Bataan introduced aboriginal Australian arJst, Dewayne EvereHsmith, to the indigenous people (IP) of the Philippines.
The delegaJon was cheerfully welcomed by the children and elders of the community. IP leader Rebecca Reyes introduced the students, Aeta community and their culture to the visitors.
ArJst Dewayne and his backup singers, Jodi Haines and Judith Rein, and his manager, MarJne Delaney began with a brief talk about aboriginal Australian culture followed by a performance of Milaythina Nika Mana Mapali in the palawa kani aboriginal language. This song is about belonging to the motherland and sharing it with others.
The community also shared their culture with the visitors including Sugarleaf’s Angelo N. Songco who’s also EVACF’s public relaJons officer. The elders sang a song in the Aeta Magbukon language, which expressed the Aeta’s love for their visitors. The children, dressed in tradiJonal clothing, then gave a lively performance of a “Fish Dance”, mimicking fish swimming down the river. The group was toured around the school, explaining its faciliJes and curriculum. She informed them of their development achievements and challenges.
