HCT The Importance Of Health And How This Relates To Sport And Leisure
INTRODUCTION:
Nowadays, there are a lot of issues that people are extremely concerned about because
they have influential impact on their life. The most important issue that no one can
disagree about is health. Health is the most important and argumentative issue that
occupies a lot of the attention of people. Health is closely related to diet and sport as
healthy people are normally those who have healthy diet and do exercise regularly.
There is a very close relation between health, diet, sport and leisure.

Firstly, food is the most crucial requirement for a healthy body. Food does not only
affect how a person feels today, tomorrow and in the future. Healthy food and good
diet makes the body more immune against the chronic diseases and maintain the
healthy weight of the person. In contrast, unhealthy eating causes a lot of chronic
diseases such as diabetes. For example, about one third of the American adults and
17% of the children are obese. In addition, people who are not obese and have
moderate weight can suffer from risky diseases if they do not have a healthy diet. A
healthy diet provides the body with the necessary nutrientsthat they body needs to
fight diseases and grow well. Eating disorders also negatively affect the health and

make people more liable to beaffected by chronic diseases. Good diet also makes
people more willing to do exercise, live their normal life and work hard. People who
eat fresh vegetables, fruit and other healthy types of food, grow healthily. Good diet
prevents the chances of being hit by strokes in contrary to people who have fast foods.
People who depend a lot on fast foods that are full of saturated fats are more liable to
heart diseases, for both men and women.
This is the food pyramid that shows the most important foods at the base of the
pyramid and the least important ones at the top.

Secondly, sport is also extremely crucial for health. Regular health helps the body to
get rid of all the poisonous substances that badly affect our health. Sports improve the
physical ability of the body and keep the person fit. In addition, sport improves the
performance of the heart and makes it resistant to any strokes. Nowadays, the number
of people dying from heart strokes is very high and the majority of victims do not
practice sport at all. Sport also helps in preventing weight gain and types of cancer.
Sport alongside with healthy food is the key to a good health. Regular exercise is very
important for good physical and mental abilities.
Sport also has a very privilege for those who practice is. Sport improves the quality of
life as it reduces depression and increases the mental performance and the cognitive
abilities of the person. It is extremely true that the sound mind is in the sound body
(Cohen, 2013). According to the US department of health, about two and half to five
hours can make the body lose a lot of weight or keep the weight loss stable. Sport is
also very important for people when they get old because it helps to improve the
functions of the muscles and the joints. Sport is also used as a psychological therapy
as it reduces the levels of depression and makes the person gain self-esteem and
positive attitude towards life. Playing sports in groups can also increase the social
interaction with people and improves the communication skills with others. Sport has
veryremarkable emotional and mental benefits on the person who plays sport (Barrett,
ND). However, a person has not to be excessive in practicing sport to avoid injury.

LEISURE TIME ACTIVITIES IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH:
Being physically active plays a vital role in ensuring health and well-being. We know
that people who join gym always and have physical activities –however intense- are
less likely to have symptoms of depression. According to research published in the
November issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry stated people who exert
themselves at work, by doing lots of walking or lifting, are no less likely to be
depressed than people with inactive occupations.
Physical movement benefits many parts of the body such as the heart, skeletal
muscles, bones, blood, and can reduce the probability of exposures to diseases. A
simple example of physical activities is walking. It can assist with stress reduction,
weight lose, and well sleep.
As lifestyles change – becoming more sedentary, people started to prefer staying all
the day watching T.V more than doing anything else. They use their leisure time
wrongly which lead to diseases prevalence such as obesity, and diabetes.

CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, a good lifestyle cannot be experienced without having a healthy body.
However, in order to be healthy and resistant to the chronic diseases, a person needs
to have a healthy diet, regular exercise and adequate leisure. Fresh and good nutrition
improves the general health and prevents a lot of disease such as cancer and heart
diseases. Sport is also very useful emotionally, physically and psychologically. It
provides the person with positive attitude and reduces the depression that a person
that be affected with. It also improves the fitness level of the person and also
improves the mental and emotional performance. Playing sports is also a good
opportunity for people to socialize and interact positively together. It is evident that
there is a strong relationship between health and diet and this is also closely related to
sport and leisure. The relationship is relatively positive and the better the diet is , the
healthier the person will be and if the person regularly practices sport , the more
emotionally , psychologically and mentally healthy the person will become.
