The Cochlear Implant When Profound Hearing
Loss Requires More than Traditional
Hearing Aids
(619) 569-1937
Those who suffer from profound hearing loss in
both ears may not always be helped by
traditional hearing aids. Sometimes a cochlear implant is the solution.
(619) 569-1937
A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted
electronic device that provides a sense of
sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or
severely hard of hearing.
(619) 569-1937
While hearing devices amplify sounds so that
damaged parts of the ear can detect those sounds, cochlear implants bypass the damaged portions of
the ear and directly stimulate the auditory
nerve.
(619) 569-1937
Hearing through a cochlear implant is not
like normal hearing and it takes time to
learn how to hear with the device after it is
implanted.
(619) 569-1937
To determine whether you are a candidate
for cochlear implants, it is important to take
the first step by having your hearing tested by
your Audiologist.
(619) 569-1937
Criteria for potential cochlear implant candidates include
Having severe to profound hearing loss in both ears.
Having a functioning auditory nerve.
Having lived at least a short amount of time without any hearing.
(619) 569-1937
If your world has become silent and hearing aids no longer provide the results you expect, do not hesitate to talk to
your Audiologist to see if this surgical solution is
right for you.
