Assessment Task 4
Teeth injuries
Personal Development Health and Physical Education
Explain the nature of the medical condition or injury.
• Injuries to the teeth can result in teeth being chipped,
cracked, and displaced or completely detached. Teeth
injuries are often a result of a sporting accident, but can
occur in all different workplaces. There are 4 main parts
to a single tooth. The Crown, Enamel, Root and Dentin. In
most serious tooth injury cases a trip to the healthcare
professional is required and in serious cases a visit to
the hospital emergency room, this may start with teeth
being knocked out, but perhaps the impact of something
hitting the face has caused more severe head and neck
damage and emergency help is required.
Signs and Symptoms
• Most of the time. Teeth injuries have very clear signs and symptoms.
Blood and the obvious feeling of pain in the tooth are the two major
signs. But a sign that cant be seen might be a one of dental check and
when the ‘unknown’ sore tooth is touched with dental instruments a
surprise shock of pain may occur.
• Some symptoms are bleeding around the affected/sore tooth. A splint
needs to be applied around the dislodged tooth to help repair the
ligament inside. Some teeth change color when they are sore. For
example and unconscious person might have severe head and neck injuries
and the pain is so bad that compared to the pain in the tooth, that the
body masks the pain of the tooth, in this case the tooth more often
then not changes colour.
Management Techniques
D.R.A.B.C.D.
