ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY FEATURES ADVANCED PHARMACOLOGY RESEARCH LAB By Ellen Scharaga

Introduction Based in Melville, NY, Ellen Scharaga serves as

the Senior Vice President of Operations for OncoMed Pharmaceutical Services. Ellen Scharaga earned a bachelor of science in pharmacology at St. John's University in Jamaica, New York.

St. John’s University’s pharmacology program features advanced research laboratories named after the current head researcher, Dr. Abu Serajuddin. In 2010, Dr. Serajuddin earned the Research Achievement Award from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).

Pharmacology Research Lab Under Dr. Serajuddin’s direction, students are

studying improvements to drug processing and delivery systems, such as how to administer drugs that do not dissolve well in water and how to process solid drugs more efficiently.

The Serajuddin lab was established in 2011 thanks to generous contributions from alumni and other donors. So far, the lab has welcomed several international pharmacology scholars, including a doctoral student from Belgium, a Fulbright scholar from Brazil, and a scholar working in the federal government in Brazil.
