For many years senior citizens were an underserved population in the United States.

Due to the Older American Act of 1965,Senior citizens now receive a wide array of

services nationwide.

This Act led the way for a well known Hanford resident Simon Lakritz and two of his friends to

establish the Commission in Spring 1970.

The goal of the Kings County Commission on Aging is to provide information and referral

service, offer assistance, support and advocate for the senior citizens of Kings County as prescribed and outlined in the

Older Americans Act.

The Agency sets a very welcome and inviting atmosphere. The staff is so dedicated and passionate about their jobs. They work as a team to help each other to complete whatever needs to be done to assist the client.

The structure of the Agency is very simple due to the fact that there are only 7 employees within the Agency.

This largely is due to the Agency being a non-profit.

Bobbie Wartson --- Senior Nutrition Centers are a place where seniors can come have a nutritional meals for lunch Tuesday through Friday at a minimal cost. Along with the Meals on Wheels program for homebound seniors.

Scott Harvey(BSW) --- SAFE (Senior Access For Engagement) is an outreach program designed to bring services to seniors of Kings County having problems accessing services.

Leticia Brice (BSW)---Long Term Care Ombudsman provides objective mediator to resolve problems in a skilled nursing facilities.

Maribel Martinez (BSW)--- Assist with Long Term Care Ombudsman, with FEMA money for utility assistance and housing, Life Scan and home visits and evaluations, respite care.

Kings County Commission on Aging provides services to Kings County residents 60 years and older.Seniors that are homebound due to medical or physical disabilities. Seniors who are of very limited resources that fall within the poverty level.

Social Work Values The agency offers to the best of their ability to help address the clients needs and concerns and assist them in receiving appropriate assistance. The Social Workers refers the seniors to appropriate resources if the services are unavailable within their own agency to assure that the seniors needs are meet.

Social Justice The focus of the agency is dealing with seniors who are needing services to becoming more efficient in their homes and remain active citizens. That the senior will have a more

Human Rights The agency tries to be as diverse in understanding the population and cultural to better serve their clients. They understand that aging population is very deep into cultural beliefs and tries to understand them. They are very understanding and respectful to the dignity and privacy of their clients when dealing with any concerns they have.

All the services provided within the agencies are free of charge.

When referring a client out to services there can be a minimal charge.

Seniors enjoy a wealth of activities in Kings County

Local organizations do not have the funding for all of the services they offer

Many services are volunteer staff
