TheVineyardHotel&Spa,supportsamongstothercharitiesandprojectsthe‘ourkidsofthecape’fund(KOTC).

KOTC,wasestablishedbythePetousisgroupin2007,withtheaimofassistinglocalchildren’scommunityprogrammes.

GuestsstayingattheHotelareaskedtocontributeasmalldonation,perroompernight,whichisbilledtotheiraccounts.

TheHotelmatchesthecontributionRandforRand.OurGuestsareundernoobligationtopaytheamountandtheymayrequest

tohaveitadjustedfromtheirhotelaccountatreception.

AcommitteeofstafffromthesupportedHotelsrunthecommitteeanddistributefunds.Theymeetmonthlytoevaluateprogress

ofprojectsandauthorizefundingtonewones.

The‘ourkidsofthecape’fundCommitteealsoarrangevarioussocialinvolvementprojectsforstaff,anddrawontheresourcesofthe

hotelstoassistwithsponsorshipsanddonationsinkind.

BetweenSeptember2010andJuly2011,R156486.44wascollectedbytheKOTC.

In2010/11,R470978.51wasdonatedorspentonCSIinitiatives.

abandoned,abused,neglectedororphanedchildren-mostinfectedoraffectedbyHIV/Aids.Tolimittheeffectsofinstitutionalliving,

childrenareaccommodatedinhouseseachwith12children.KOTCpaysforonehousesexpensesmonthly.

TheStellenboschHospiceprovidesholisticpalliativeandchronichealthcaretoallthecommunitiesofStellenboschandthesurrounding

areassince1992.Theyoffera24/7palliativewardservice,homebasedcareforover400patientsperday,whosuffermainlyfromCancer,

HIV/AIDSandTBandprovidethepsycho-socialsupportandcounsellingtopatientsandtheirfamiliestocopewiththeburdenofdisease.

TheAquariusSchoolfeedingschemeprovidessoupandbreadtoover8500ofCapeTownspoorestChildrenatSchool.Retiredpensioner,

CliveKolbecollectsthousandsofloavesofbreadweeklyanddeliversthistotheneedyschools.

staffandareencouragedtodonatetoiletries&unwantedclothestothegirls.

AntheaPietersoftheEersterivierEmpowermentCentretakescareofchildrenwhohavebeenplacedinhercare,whoareallvictimsof

neglect,violence,drugandalcoholabuseoftheparents.Thesechildrenrangefrom1-11yearsold.

Overandabovethis,shealsoprovidestemporarysheltertowomenandchildrenwhoarethevictimsofdomesticviolence.

InOctober2010wereachedouttoAmber;a9yearoldgirlsufferingfrombraincancer,herinterestsincludedressingherdollies&watching

7deLaan.Amber’swishwastohaveakiddieslaptopandatriptoRobbenIsland.UnfortunatelyAmber’sbloodcountwasverylowandwe

couldnotmakehertriptoRobbenIslandcometruewewereabletopresentherwithherveryownkiddieslaptop,abigbunchoffresh

sunflowersandagroceriesvoucherforherfamily.Update:Amberisstillreceivingchemotherapy.

Boys and Girls Town – September 2010 – R5 000

Weassistedwithfundingfortheir“CoolRunning’sFunDay”Initiativeistoprovidetheboysintheircarewhocomefromdisadvantaged

communitiesanopportunitytobepartofanactivitythatwillbroadentheiroutlookonlifesothattheycanseethatthereismoreoutthere

thandrugsandgangs.Itwasaonedayevent,where30boyswentbobsleddingonthe1.25kmtrack.

Sisanda FunDaytion – 2nd October 2010 – R5 000

KOTCsponsoredaFunDayforchildrenthroughthe‘SisandaFunDaytion’,thechildrenwenttoMonkeyTown,wentbowling,hadlunchand

receivedtoysandequipment.Sisandaaimstoproviderecreationallydeprivedbeneficiarieswiththeopportunitytoplayandlearninasafe

environmentandexposethesedisadvantagechildrentosuitablerolemodels.

Percy Bartley House – December 2010 – R7 500

LocatedinWoodstock,isahometo25youthsagedbetween14–18years,manyofwhomarestreetchildren.KOTCdonatedR7500

towardstheireducationprogramme.WiththisKOTCcontributionitwillenablePBHtosendmorechildrentoschool.

TheprojectprovidesdailyactivitiesforthedisadvantagedyouthfromthegreaterLavenderHillareawhichhelpthechildrentodevelopa

strongsenseofself,teachingthemtoliveapositive,natural,andhealthylifestyleandtoappreciatethemselvesandtheworldaroundthem.

TheKOTC’sR5000donationwenttowardsfoodforthechildrenforfivemonths.

TheprimaryobjectiveofTNHFSAistoempowertownshipyouthtochangetheircommunitiesfromtheinsideout.TNHFSAseeksto

accomplishthisobjectivebyinvestinginthehighereducationoftownshipyouthandoperatingwithinadynamicCommunityImpactModel

(CIM).CIMengagesapartnershipbetweenTNHFSAandthescholars,TNHFSAscholarsarerequiredtoinvestintheirowncommunities

inthefollowingways:CommunityService;Mentoring&Tutoring;FinancialLiteracyandReinvestment.

Objectiveistopreparechildrenfortheirformaleducation,sothatwhentheyenterprimaryschoolwithafirmfoundationinbasicMaths

andliteracyaswellasaloveoflearning.KOTCdonationwenttowardsequippingaclassroomwithlearningaidsforMaths.

OurGroupDevelopmentManagerispresentlyinvolvedinaprojectaimedatsupportingtheNationalPlanningCommission’sview

thatEducationisoneofthetwo“mostpressingchallengesfacingthecountry”.

Inanutshell,theprogrammeentailsthefollowing:

• Abusinessleaderbecomesalearninganddevelopmentpartnertoaschoolprincipal

• Togethertheyaretaskedwithoneofthetoughestchallengesfacingourcountry:toengageparentsandothermembersofthe

communityaroundtheschooltopartnerwiththeprincipalandteacherstoeducateourchildren.

• Thebusinessleader(PartnerforPossibility)andprincipal(PrincipalforPossibility)aresupportedthroughformaltraining,coaching

andcommunitiesofpractice

Thebenefitsareenormousforthebusinessleader,principal,teachers,parents,learnersandforallofusinSouthAfrica.

TheVineyardHotel&SpahavepartneredwithFairmountHighSchool’sprincipal–Mr.TerenceKlassen.

TheinvestmentisvaluedatoverR42000.

EmployeesoftheVineyardHotelaregivenapaidCSRdaytoallowthemtogetinvolvedwithasocialresponsibility

oranenvironmentalprojecteachyear.

Beware students at work

InNovember2010;withtheassistanceofOurKidsoftheCapeourstudentscontinuedtheworktheyhadstartedat

RainbowofHopeChildren’sHomein2009,halfofourgroupoftraineestookthechildrenouttoTygerbergZooforthemorning,

theotherhalfspenttheirtimebrighteningupthegarden,paintingmuralsandpaintingsforthewalls,puttingnewsoftfurnishingsinto

theirroomsandbakingcupcakesforthechildren.Oneofthechildrendrewathankyounoteforour“boss”thankinghimforallowing

ourtrainee’stotakepart.

June2011thisyearourstudentschoseJamesHouseinHoutBayastheirsocialdevelopmentproject.OnWednesday,22ndJunethe

studentsgottoworkgivingthejunglegymafreshcoatofpaint,sprucinguponeofthemeetingrooms,plantingtrees,assembling

volleyballandsoccernetsandmakinghotdogsforalmost50children.Afterlunch,thestudentsdividedintotwogroups.Onegroup

playedsoccerwiththeolderchildrenwhiletheothergroupentertainedtheyoungerchildrenpaintingfacesandcolouringin.

OurBanquetingDepartmentattheVineyardHotel&SparaisefundsfortheKOTCbyofferingconferenceguestsa‘leanmeal’.

Conferencedelegatespaythefullpriceforthemealandthenreceivealowercostmeal.

Bandana Day

InsupportoftheSunflowerFoundationwhoaimtoincreasethedatabaseofBoneMarrowDonors,VineyardHotel&Spahostsand

subsidisestheirannualFundraisinglunch.WesupportBandanaDay;thehotelisadornedwithsunflowersandstaffprovidedwithneckties.

Topsy Foundation

WesupporttheTopsyFoundationwhoassistpeopleinfectedandaffectedwithHIVandAIDS.TheHotelpurchasedbeadedangelsforall

femalestaffmembersforWomensDay.WecontinuedoursupportwiththepurchaseofbeadedAidsRibbonsforallstaffandguests

stayingatthehotel.Theguestsreceivedtheseribbons,withaninformationcardontheirpillowthenightbeforeWorldAidsDay.

Casual Day

SupportcasualdayinaidofCapeMentalHealth,staffpurchasetheircasualdaystickers.

Madiba’s Birthday

On18July2011at08h05,ourstaffgatheredinthefoyeroftheVineyardtowishMadibaaveryhappybirthdaythroughsonganddance.
