HOW DOES YOU MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Page 2: Social groups 3#

Our media film presents a young couple in the young 20's who seem to own a average sized house suggesting that they both have good jobs otherwise they wouldn't be able to afford it. It represents people in their 20's as responsible and able to maintain a secure job. It further represents people who are in a relationship at a young age to be quite eager and rushed in what they do in their lives, especially from the fact that our couple from our thriller are living in a house already at this young age.

• Our thriller represents males and the dominant ones of the household shown to be very protective over his girlfriend. However he also has a secretive side to his personality as in our opening something is clearly wrong because he is panicked and telling the female lead to pack her bags. In response to this his girlfriend (Mia) is confused and doesn't know what’s happening because 'Hugo' will not tell her. This portrays young males as troublesome and restrained over their own issues. Similarly to the film ‘The departed’ this

relationship have their secrets specifically in the males part, due to the fact that he is working undercover in the police force . In our thriller the male lead Hugo is hiding something from Mia as she doesn’t know why she has to pack her bags. When Hugo tell Mia to ‘trust her’ this instantly makes the audience question whether he is trustworthy or not.

• The girl is appeared to be outside of this problem that the character 'Hugo' has just come running into the house with. It suggests that their is distance in the relationship in terms of what they know about each other.

The male domination and female inferiority is shown through this over the shoulder shot. You can see physically by the height and the use of the high angles that the female lead in portrayed as weak.

• Hugo is wearing a casual tracksuit whilst the female lead Mia is again wearing jeans, a plain top and scarf. This scruffy and casual look is generic for the age group of teenagers/young adult, as it is known that some do not take care in their appearance.
