3. are less likely to report a fraud because they don't know to whom to report it; are ashamed at having been scammed; or don't know they have been scammed. And elderly victims fear that relatives may conclude that they can no longer handle their own financial affairs.

4. who do report the crimes often make poor witnesses because of the effects of age on memory and the con man counts on this.

5. make up the segment of the population most concerned about issues and products that promise increased cognitive function, virility, physical conditioning, anti-cancer properties, and so on.
