Once upon a time there lived two children, Ola and Ella who lived with their father in the woods. They lived in a time where people still believed in witchcraft and if a person committed a bad deed, witches would cast a spell on them.

One late night, the father told a spooky story to Ola and Ella.....

“To this day there lives two evil witches who cast the curse of the Measles onto unsuspecting children...”

“Their names are Rubeola and Rubella and they target children who do not take their MMR shots.”

“The curse they place on children make them feel really sick. ”

“So children, if you see these witches stay away from them. Or, we can make an appointment to take your immunity shots to protect you.”

“Rubeola’s curse appears 8-12 days after she has casts her spell on anyone who is not vaccinated.”

“Rubella’s curse takes a little longer to appear - about 2-3 weeks after contact. Although her curse is a lot more mild than other witches, if a pregnant women crosses her, the baby may be born with congenital defects.”

The next morning after they had breakfast, Father told Ella and Ola to get ready because they had an appointment with the doctor.

At the office, the doctor mentioned that the two witches are spawns of the RNA virus. “Kids, you’re going to need two doses of the MMR vaccine to be fully protected”.

The doctor prepared the shots for the children, but when they saw the long needle they ran out of the doctor's office screaming.

The children ran. They kept running until there was no sight of anyone familiar behind them.

As they were able to catch their breath, Ella and Ola noticed two shadows above them coming closer and closer.

Ella and Ola screamed and panicked, trying to make sense of what was happening to them.

Ahh!

The witches chanted and swayed in a trance. The witches cursed each child by grabbing and coughing on them.

Their curses were successful thru contact and airbone spells.

Finally, the shadow that had swept them off their feet came to a dead stop somewhere in the woods and revealed who they were. “We are Rubella and Rubeola and we have come to take your soul and cast a spell on you.”

Ella and Ola kicked and screamed until they finally were able to get out of the witches grasps.

As they ran, Ola began to feel weak...

Ella placed her hand on Ola’s forehead. “Ola, you’re spiking up a fever!”

“I feel something weird in my mouth.” says Ola. When Ola opens his mouth, Ella is shocked to see blue white spots with redness forming near his molars on the buccal mucosa called Koplik spots.

Koplik Spots

Four days later, Ella noticed a deep red maculopapular rash spreading from Ola’s face down to his trunk and lower extremities. “Ola, what’s happening with your face now?”

Ola’s eyes widen as he noticed Ella was showing signs of a rash, “Ella, Rubella gave you pinkish-rose maculopapular rashes!!” The rash began on her face, neck and scalp then it spread all the way downward to her entire body over 3 days.

“Open your mouth Ella,” said Ola. He saw pink reddish spots on her soft palette. “Ella you have the Forschheimer’s sign!!!”

“We need to go back to the doctor! She’s the only one who can help us with this curse.” said Ella

as both children rushed back to the doctor.

The doctor explained to the children that all they can do now is treat the symptoms and let the illness run its course. She also said to the kids, “We will need to keep you home to rest.”

“There will be no going to school for a couple weeks, because we don’t want to spread the curse onto your friends.”, Also eat healthy and keep hydrated. I will tell your dad to give you non-asprin fever reducers.”

As for the witches, they still continue to make those who aren’t vaccinated sick.

Rubella learned to transmit her curse with via the transplacental spell, and is now able to get a pregnant mommy and her baby really sick. Congenital rubella can cause intrauterine growth retardation with infants failing to thrive in infancy.

But more about this in another story....
