• A national anti-drug initiative in the USA. • For almost 30 years, it has been celebrated by school and local
organizations throughout the USA during the last week of October. • Aims at raising awareness about the abuses of
tobacco alcohol drug use
Why Kids Should Be Taught The Importance Of Red Ribbon Week?
• They’re easily influenced by peers • TV and internet at times glorifies tobacco and alcohol,
making them a vulnerable group
Ideas for Red Ribbon Week
1. Make Your Kids Familiar with the Dangers of Drug Use
• Talk to them about it - explain how it hurts them and the entire family unit.
• Take them substance abuse prevention presentations. • And, understand them better by listening.
2. Show Them the 'Reality'
• Watch educational videos. • Do an outreach at a hospital helping cancer patients who
had been addicted to either Tobacco, alcohol or drugs. Children below 8 years shouldn't be subjected to this content
• Use the Internet as a tool to show them the reality of substance abuse.
3. Encourage Them to Form A Support Group
• Encourage your children to get involved with their friends in community activities
• Help them plan school level activities that are fun and informative and spread awareness about drug abuse
• Support their choice of friends that steer clear of drugs • Be aware of the school’s activity list
