Antidiarrhoeal treatment in children depends upon several factors.

Age

Body weight

Severity

Type of infection

Others (ADR, suffering with other disease etc)

Antidiarrhoeal Oral Liquid: Issues -unpalatable, bitter taste, constipation &

dosage accuracy.

Most GP does not treat and refer to Paediatrician if the child age is below 2-3

years.

Safety & efficacy are the major concern while prescribing a brand.

Mostly go with brand of reputed company to avoid risk.

Most of the prescription for Antidiarrhoeal formulation come

from GP if the age of patients is above 3-4 years followed by

Paediatrician if the age is below 2-3 years.

Top selling formulation are Z & D Drops of DRL and O2 of

MEDLEY PHARMACEUTICALS in Antidiarrhoeal

formulations.

Average Selling of O2 Sups is 15-16 bottle PM.

Interpretation12

Growth of Antidiarrhoeal Oral Solid (1.90%) is higher than Oral

Liquid (1.40%), however the market size of Antidiarrhoeal Oral

Liquid is 4 times higher than that of Solid; So focus should be

on Liquid Formulation.

Demand of Antidiarrhoeal oral liquid or solid is highest during

march to june months followed by july to oct months.

Maximum prescribed Antidiarrhoeal formulations are Z & D

Drops, O2 Sups and Racigyl kid tab.

Promotion of Antidiarrhoeal high end product (serious) should

be targeted to Paediatrician only.
