• Favorable salvage surgery candidates:

– Disease-free interval after definitive therapy

– Small recurrent tumors

– Younger

– No recurrent neck disease

• Only 14 of 434 (3%) patients with recurrent oropharyngeal SCC met these criteria

• Salvage surgery can provide a very select group of patients with long-term disease control and quality of life.
