PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

USING THE SELF-EFFICACY CONSTRUCT IN TWO DIFFERENT THEORIES

• In HBM, self-efficacy applies especially to performance of repeated or habitual behaviors such as physical activity (Rosenstock, Strecher, and Becker, 1988 Cited by: Glannz)

• TTM, Distinction between decision and action is common to most stage theories, there self-efficacy becomes critical (Glannz).

• Methods for Increasing Self-Efficacy = Verbal persuasion.

• Positive reinforcement.

• “Integrative Behavioral Model”.

CONCLUSION

Our recruitment strategies were not detailed enough to exclude participants who already had a high enjoyment of physical activity, which is a limitation of our study.

We think the intervention is effective due to the increasing enjoyment for 5-minute walking in both groups.

Qualitative + Quantitative data

More controlled studies are required to test if these improvements will help participants to overcome future barriers for being active.

In the futureTo implement a structured inclusion/exclusion procedure , extend the intervention time, increase the sample size, individualize SMSs with participant´s name before the text, implement individualized ways to deliver the SMS.

THANK YOU!
