Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)
Great advances in medicine and technology have reduced mortality (the death rate) attributed to CVD substantially over the past 40 years
There are literally millions of people alive and well today as a result of treatments such as angioplasty that did not exist a generation ago … 50 or more years ago nearly all of these people would have died
In some quarters there is a view that perhaps many of the challenges have been resolved, but this is far from the case

Cardiovascular Disease
The True Position About CVD Globally Despite improved mortality, CVD remains the largest single cause of death globally, and in most countries
Improvements in morbidity (the occurrence of CVD) and mortality (CVD attributed deaths) have not advanced in tandem. In a nutshell, compared with a generation ago you may be less likely to die from CVD but just as likely to suffer from it
This has huge implications on medical treatments and the cost of these, and th lifestyles of those managing CVD long term
The incidence of CVD increases with age, especially over age 60. Post-WW2 population ‘bubbles’ will over the next 2 decades bring more people into the 60+ age group and this means more people with CVD and greater pressure on treatment facilities and resources
