NATIONAL OUTCOMES RESEARCH ANALYSIS(NORA)
National Outcomes Research Analysis:Goals
NORA will provide scientific outcomes research to demonstrate the clinical value, cost effectiveness and improved outcomes provided by athletic trainers to patients.
The research will favorably affect decisions by:
third-party payers workers compensation organizations corporate employers Federal and state legislators and regulators U.S. health care delivery system
Reach 100 reporting sites and 35 cases per diagnosis.

Important Facts about NORA:
NORA focuses on all musculoskeletal conditions (foot/ankle, knee, hip, spine, shoulder, elbow, and wrist/hand) and the rehabilitation of those conditions.
UDS (Uniform Data Systems/vendor) has extensive experience in collecting and interpreting outcomes data. is an accepted vendor of Medicare. has significant therapy outcomes data
that athletic trainers can compare against.
Guidelines for participation:
An athletic trainer must be sole provider of services for this study (from patient intake to discharge)
Prefer athletic trainer to be single-credentialed:* no dual credentials from PT, OT, PTA* CSCS, PES are acceptable
Must comply with HIPAA, FERPA regulations and laws
Must be a one-on-one clinical care path (not a mass athletic training room setting)
Any setting (i.e., high school, clinic, hospital, physician office)
How to, other details:
Must fill out a patient intake and discharge form for each patient.
Forms can be submitted to UDS via fax or online; goal is 100% electronically submitted. Goal to reach 1,800 data sets by June 2006.
Training takes 1.5 to 2 hours and is provided free via online web cast scheduled by UDS.
Minimal time commitment to enter data– AT friendlyNo identifying patient or clinic information will be
provided. Blind, comparative information will be available at
the conclusion of the study.
