NHS-wide requirements

Each year there are a number of changes to the NHS IG requirements. The latest V8 of the IG Toolkit couldaffect a large number of NHS organisational types (GPs, Acute, Adult social care, Communitypharmacies, Dental practices, Eye care services, Ambulance, PCTs, etc), Commercial Third Parties and NHSPartners, due to a number of significant changes.

IG changes

Changes are made to the online IG Toolkit system and the IG requirements themselves, as well as the newoverall approach to scoring. In many cases, there is a need for NHS providers/third party suppliers to obtainadditional evidence of their level of achievements.

IG timescale

By 31 March 2011, all NHS providers and third party suppliers will be expected to achieve the “targetedlevel” of compliance (the minimum actions) against each of their IG requirements.

SIX principle stages for your successful IG Toolkit online submission:

1. Assessment of current practices - a review of the current IG processes and staff procedures inoperation.

2. Identification of IG 'gaps' or differences (if any) between the IG8 Guidelines and current practice.

3. Creation of IG Improvement Plan (if needed) to gain Level 2 status.

4. Undertake improvements: our IG experts will provide guidance and assistance wherever possible(i.e. if there are policies to be written we will suggest text and supply it to you for agreement inorder to minimise the workload burden on the practice); we will also perform physical securityonsite assessment.

5. Assemble body of evidence - identify and reference the documentary evidence to support the claimfor level two status.

6. File the IG8 submission with supporting evidence.
