Main challengesBuilding a cohesive and confident group that is clear about its role and its goals

Interesting and involving local people in their neighbourhood,

Getting quick wins so that we can demonstrate to the community that assemblies can make a difference

What would assist you?Officers supporting the work of the group, minutes, logistics, follow-up activities

Being well-enough informed about what local people really think (statistics, data from consultations and resident surveys)

A good understanding of how local authorities and other service providers work

InformationA grasp of the basic ideas behind the working/effectiveness of the group.

Clarification as to how co-ordinating groups fit into the big picture.

A structure/hierarchical flowchart which depicts the roles within the Council.

What support you would find usefulWould expect training in any specialist areas and support depending on the tasks

Good access to information and to relevant council officers and good responses from them.

Value on-going training, support and whatever else there is to ensure that I do the task justice.

Equal opportunities prioritiesGetting a representative panel of people in the assembly and co-ordinating groups so advertising to all is key.

That the group actively seeks views from hard to access groups.

All members should respect one another, and aim for a good understanding of all different cultures

All interested parties/stakeholders invited to contribute on issues that concern the community and that this is reflected in the evaluation process

Why you got involvedMaintain the area as a friendly and safe place for families and young people. I am a Mum who works part time from home and I enjoy the group work. I love my community and feel part of it - would be happy to help make it even better.

Perhaps I was just p****d off with the lack of community and lack of care that most people seem to have for the area.

Am interested in my local community and an opportunity to share experiences and learning with other parties, with a view to influencing change and improving my knowledge.

Groups how has it gone?Identify three things that have gone well and three things that might need attention to improve
