TIPS FOR AN ORAL PRESENTATION

Be prepared. Research your subject to make sure that you know a lot about it. Practice your presentation until you feel comfortable.

Know your audience. Take into account what they need to know, and their interests.

Be positive. Make it clear that you are enthusiastic about your subject.

Don’t read your presentation. Talk to your audience. Use your notes as prompts.

Provide examples. Try to make your presentation as concrete as possible. Add appropriate anecdotes and humour.

Use visual aids. Visual aids are supplements to what you say, not replacements for what you say.

Look at your audience. Shift your eye contact around the room so that everyone feels that you are talking to them.

Involve your audience. Prepare some simple activities for your audience or ask them questions so that they are actively involved in your presentation.

Use your voice effectively. Speak up and be careful not to talk too quickly.

End on a high note. The end is also important. Leave your audience with a positive feeling about what they have just heard.
