You’ll first recline comfortably in an examination chair. You may need to wear a gown depending on the area being treated. You will also wear goggles or glasses during the treatment to protect your eyes.

Dr. Schlessinger or his Physician Assistant will apply the laser head to your skin and begin to move it over the area being treated. You may smell a slight burning odor, which is the hair being destroyed, or “zapped,” in the follicle.

Minor skin irritation and redness may occur. This lasts a short time, feels like a mild sunburn and is easily soothed with aloe vera gel or a cold compress. Patients will need to wear sunscreen and protect the area for at least a month after treatment. They’re also encouraged to shave or to clip rather than pluck between treatments so that the hair is in the follicle and ready for removal.
