The Vision
• iWALK was inspired by Leadership Napa Valley Class 27 and the Live Healthy Napa County 2013-2016 Community Health Improvement plan’s goals to1. Reduce overweight/obesity and2. Increase physical activity of Napa
County Residents.
What is the issue?
• According to the April 2013 Live Healthy Napa County Community Health Assessment:– 40% of 5th, 7th & 9th graders are
overweight or obese– 50% of all adults reported engaging little
or not physical activity each week
How can ¡walk help?
• Walk just 30minutes a day five days a week or ten thousands steps per day and you can:– Help control your weight– Help improve your mood and mental
health– Lower your chances of developing
chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis and some types of cancer.
– Strengthen your bones
What is ¡walk napa county?
• Inspire people to walk regularly by:– Joining existing walking groups or form
new ones with friends, neighbors, co-workers
– Get engaged in the community– Be amazed at all the things you will see
when you’re walking that you don’t notice in a car.
Why walking?
• It’s fun and easy• Lowers your stress and boosts your
energy• Can be done alone or with friends• Helps control weight• Is a great way to share time with family
and friends• Gets you in touch with nature• Strengthens your heart and bones
