INTRODUCTIONDrowning is a major and costly cause of deaths and grief.

Drowning is our common enemy and we fight against it daily.

What's more, drowning is in fact our strongest bond.

Thousands of people and lifeguards around the world work

every day in order to reduce and prevent drowning-related

accidents and preserve people's lives. And we firmly believe

that a majority of them constantly question their professio-

nal training and performance.

In the last few years, the links between community and local

and international water safety organizations have generated

widespread interdisciplinary and global interest and now

constitute an important area of study with major implica-

tions in the fields of prevention, water safety and lifesaving

for a range of professionals and political authorities.

We wish to collaborate with all types of the organizations

and institutions worldwide willing to work towards the pre-

vention of drowning and water-related accidents and the

continuous improvement of lifesaving training methods and

techniques.

The SICOD 2014 conference will provide a forum for educa-

tors, scientists and emergency personnel to share research,

experiences and ideas and to stimulate debate on current

issues and controversies relating to water safety, first aid,

water rescue and intervention, lifesaving, lifeguarding, edu-

cation and their interface.

INTRODUCCIÓNEl Ahogamiento es una de las más importantes causas de muerte

y sufrimiento en el mundo. Es nuestro común enemigo, contra el

que luchamos a diario y aún más, es nuestro vínculo más estrecho.

Miles de personas y socorristas trabajan cada día en todo el mun-

do para prevenir y reducir los ahogamiento, preservando la vida de

los demás. Creemos firmemente que en su mayoría están sincera-

mente preocupados por mejorar su entrenamiento y su desem-

peño.

En los últimos años, los lazos entre la población y las organizacio-

nes de todos los ámbitos que se dedican a la seguridad en el medio

acuático han promovido un interés generalizado y multidisciplinar,

de modo que ahora el ahogamiento es un área relevante de estu-

dio, con importantes implicaciones en los campos de la preven-

ción, seguridad acuática y socorrismo para un gran abanico de pro-

fesionales y responsables políticos y administrativos.

En SICOD 2014, deseamos contar con la colaboración de perso-

nas, organizaciones, empresas e instituciones de todo el mundo

que quieran trabajar en aras de la prevención de los ahogamientos,

la seguridad acuática y la mejora de los sistemas de preparación,

rescate e intervención en Socorrismo Acuático.

El Congreso proporcionará un foro para que educadores, científi-

cos, personal de emergencia o socorristas puedan compartir inves-

tigaciones, experiencias y estimular el debate y en las diversas áre-

as de la seguridad acuática, la prevención, primeros auxilios, soco-

rrismo, educación e intervención comunitaria, rescate acuático y

sus aplicaciones.

INTRODUCTION

AETSAS (Asociación Española de Técnicos en Salva-

mento Acuático y Socorrismo) and ESS (Escuela Segovia-

na de Socorrismo) are charity organizations founded on

1995 with the aim to spread and promote Drowning Pre-

vention and improve Water Rescue and Lifesaving skills.

The SICOD Conference was born in 2013 with the aim

to gather a wide range of world experts in a multidiscipli-

ne approach who share knowledge, information, techni-

ques, teaching methodology, papers and rescue materials

and increase our common understanding and interchange.

We wish SICOC to become the essential reference to

combine the spirit of collaboration between World and

Country Agencies, Universities and Surf Lifesaving groups.

Sharing and learning techniques, developments, materials

and experts around the world, plus an enriching experien-

ce of personal contact around our common interest, the

fight against drowning.

INTRODUCCIÓN

AETSAS (Asociación Española de Técnicos en Salva-

mento Acuático y Socorrismo) y la ESS (Escuela Segovia-

na de Socorrismo) son dos instituciones sin ánimo de

lucro, fundadas en 1995 para difundir y promocionar el

mundo del Socorrismo y el Salvamento Acuático

SICOD nace en 2013 para reunir una gran variedad de

expertos de ámbito internacional en una aproximación

multidisciplinaria con el objetivo de aportar conocimien-

tos, información, técnicas, métodos docentes y entendi-

miento entre nuestros intereses, trabajos, materiales y

técnicas comunes.

Queremos que SICOD se convierta en un foro de refe-

rencia dónde aunar el espíritu de colaboración entre los

distintos organismos y colectivos del Socorrismo e inter-

cambiar y conocer técnicas, novedades, materiales y

expertos de todo el mundo, para compartir, además, una

experiencia de contacto personal enriquecedora en torno

a nuestro interés común, la lucha contra el Ahogamiento.

CALL FOR ABSTRACT AND PRESENTATIONS

The organisers of SICOD 2014 are seeking Abstracts for

oral, poster and workshop presentations from a range of

sources around Conference and related themes.

We encourage all organizations, institutions, agencies or

people involved in interesting research, policy or practice

aimed at preventing drowning and improving lifeguard’s

performance, to submit an abstract and start planning your

attendance at this Conference.

Abstracts are to be submitted under a Conference theme

identifying a presentation type:

Oral presentation:

Standard time allocated per presentation will range from

20 minutes to 45 minutes including question and answer

time.

Poster presentation:

A formal graphic presentation of a topic/theme. Time will

be allocated for attendees to view and discuss poster pre-

sentations with their authors. Posters may be accompa-

nied by handouts.

Workshop:

Workshops will be organised throughout the conference,

and will provide for facilitated discussion. Workshops are

useful for: encouraging dialogue; thinking about future

research; policy and practice possibilities; presenting work

in progress; or developing collaborative relationships.

An abstract guide has been prepared to assist authors

submitting their work.

There will be display space available for tradeshow dis-

plays during SICOD 2014. Sponsorship opportunities are

PRESENTACIÓN DE TRABAJOS Y PONENCIAS

SICOD 2104 convoca a los autores a presentar comuni-

caciones orales, posters y talleres prácticos sobre cual-

quiera de los temas del Congreso.

Animamos a todas las organizaciones y personas implica-

das en la investigación, práctica o desarrollo normativo

enfocada a la prevención de ahogamientos y la mejora de

la seguridad, el socorrismo y el rescate acuático a presen-

tar sus trabajos y a planificar su asistencia a SICOD2014.

Los trabajos pueden presentarse en referencia a uno de

los temas del Congreso bajo los siguientes formatos:

Comunicación Oral:

Tendrán un tiempo de entre 20 y 45 minutos, incluyendo

el tiempo para el debate.

Formato Poster:

Presentación en formato gráfico sobre un tema o aspec-

to. En el desarrollo del programa se reservará un tiempo

específico para que los asistentes puedan revisar y debatir

los posters con sus autores. Los autores pueden acom-

pañar folletos o información adicional.

Talleres Prácticos:

Su objetivo será la práctica de técnicas específicas y su dis-

cusión. Los Talleres Prácticos son útiles para facilitar el diá-

logo, reflexionar sobre posibles líneas de desarrollo o

investigación, presentar trabajos en proceso de desarrollo

o abrir vías de colaboración entre grupos.

Se ha preparado una guía para los facilitar a los autores la

presentación de trabajos.
