Type 1 Diabetes

~90% diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D)• T2D-Insulin use issues-Genetic and lifestyle
~10% diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) • T1D-No insulin produced-Genetic and needs trigger
What is Diabetes?

Signs and Symptoms of T1D

Treatment=INSULIN
Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) Continuous Subcutaneous Infusion of Insulin (CSII)
CSII or “pumping” of insulin covers basal needs and bolus doses of insulin via a pump site
Pump site must be changed and every 3 days
Site rotation is important
MDI or “shots” of insulin given to cover basal needs of insulin and bolus doses of insulin
Generally 4-6 subcutaneous shots per day
Rotation of injection location is important
