A guide for the busy student, working professional, or stay at home parent looking
for a little r&r
Mia Davis. October 2012.
First, My Story
1. Identify goal: more yoga! – peace & exercise2. Setup: take yoga mat out of closet and unroll it onto
bedroom floor3. Use time: In the morning, at night, whenever I have
time, I just sit down on my yoga mat and get to posing. I can even just lie down if I want or sit and think.

Finding Your “me” Time.
How I got myself to regularly practice yoga.
Step 1: Identify your goal
Pick a leisure activity:
Think about…What relaxes you? What’s your favorite hobby?
What makes you happy?
Finding Your “me” Time.
Step 2: Set yourself up to succeed
Key to success is AWARENESSEase likelihood of successIf it’s in your face, you will be more
likely to do it.
Whatever the activity, make it accessible.
Ex. Place your walking shoes next to the front door or your desk at work, put
your book on your bedside table or in your purse, put the French language
CD in your car’s CD player for the drive to work, set up pillows for a
meditation space in your bedroom – you get the idea
Finding Your “me” Time.
Step 3: Recognize and act on “windows of opportunity”
When you have a spare 5 minutes in the day, use it to do your activity. If its an activity that takes a little longer, think about your natural schedule and identify the chunks of time that are open.
Good time periods:- right when you wake up- time usually spent procrastinating- immediately following meals- gap periods: between work and home, class and dinner

Keys to Success
Keep it Simple- what do you enjoy that’s easy to do? it can be a walk around the block, or 5 minutes of strumming your guitar. It’s just about doing something in YOUR day for YOU.
Fight the guilt: don’t feel guilty if you do, don’t feel guilty if you don’t- there is no need to feel guilty for taking time for YOURSELF. Conversely, if you don’t succeed in finding “you time” everyday, don’t feel guilty about that either! What matters is that you can!

Good luck!
Remember: Make it easy on yourself. If it’s in your face, you’re more likely to do it! But don’t forget, in the words of good ol’ Dr. Phil, “Awareness without action is worthless.” You can do it!
