Exercise: Can It Reverse Skin Aging?

The Study of Mice

Researchers divided two groups of mice into two groups: one with access to exercise wheels, and the other without. The mice that did not have access to their exercise wheel became weak, bald, and ill. The mice with access to their exercise wheel however showed the exact opposite: healthy hearts, muscles, and kept their fur longer. These results concluded with the hypothesis that exercise does play a role in mice aging. But the researchers began to wonder if this same argument can be applied to humans.

Study on Humans

The study involving humans consisted of 29 male and female volunteers between the ages 20 and 84. Like the mice, the individuals were divided into groups where one group would be sedentary while the other was more active. The results? For individuals above 40 years of age who have been active had younger looking skin, comparable to an individual who is between 20 and 30 years of age.

Do Your Part!

This of course does not guarantee younger, healthy looking skin but it is definitely a good start. So lace up those running shoes, buy some comfy clothes, and start running! Your health (and now your skin) will thank you in the end.
