KEY TRENDS

• Health care is a priority for all actors of the value chain – Societal needs

– Cost pressure

– Lead markets (e.g. Ageing, metabolic diseases, cancer, CNS, etc)

– Political priority (Horizon 2020)

• The paradigm for health care is changing – From a “pill for all” to a personalised approach

– From an acute problem to a managed problem

– From local development to global value creation networks

– From a “mono-technoligical” approach to a converging technologies approach (Es. diagnostic + therapies + devices altogether)

• The health care sector has now a global, multi-technological and trans-market dimension, touching also different “traditional” sectors, from agro-food to ICT.

AND A STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE

• While the current, almost “traditional”, concept of Personalised

Medicine stands for the customisation of healthcare for patient

subgroups through medical decisions, practices and products,

the future will be probably the development of a Personalised

Healthcare with a solution-driven approach, bringing together

the necessary industry sectors.

• This shall not only involve therapeutics and diagnostics research

& development, but also include other technological

approaches for the lifelong management of health and

healthcare, like e-Health (patient care using IT solutions and

devices), medical technologies, new materials, electronics and

mechatronics, but also the involvement of “traditional” low-

medium tech sectors such as agro-food, cosmetics and textiles.

The health care paradigm is changing:

Cost factor

Technology advancements

Societal needs

bioPmed is leveraging on all available technologies in order to

develop - through R&D projects - solutions to such challenges

bioPmed is using the power of partnership to work together

with key clusters in Europe to create a pan European platform -

based on a personalised healthcare vision - that could act as a

real global actor.
