Important terms

Manuscript: A manuscript or handwrite is a recording of information that has been manually created by someone or some people, such as a hand-written letter, as opposed to being printed printed or reproduced some other way.

In publishing and academic contexts, a "manuscript" is the text submitted to the publisher or printer in preparation for publication, usually as a typescript prepared on a typewriter, or today, a printout from a PC, prepared in manuscript format.[Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuscript]

Page 7: EndNoteX6 presentation

Bibliography: (from Greek βιβλιογραφία, bibliographia, literally "book writing"), as a practice, is the academic study of books as physical, cultural objects; in this sense, it is also known as bibliology (from Greek -λογία, -logia). On the whole, bibliography is not concerned with the literary content of books but rather the sources of books concerned with the literary content of books, but rather the sources of books – how they were designed, edited, printed, circulated, reprinted and collected.

Page 9: EndNoteX6 presentation

Important terms—contd.

A bibliography, the product of the practice of bibliography, is a systematic list of books and other works such as journal articles. Bibliographies range from "works cited" lists at the end of books and articles to complete, independent publications. As separate works, they may be in bound volumes such as those shown on the right, or computerized bibliographic databases. A library catalog while not referred to as a library catalog, while not referred to as a "bibliography," is bibliographic in nature. Bibliographical works are almost always considered to be tertiary sources.[Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliography

Page 10: EndNoteX6 presentation

Important terms—contd.Bibliography: Strictly speaking, a systematic list or enumeration of written works by a specific author or on a given subject, or that share one or more common characteristics (language, form, period, place of publication, etc.). When a bibliography is about a person, the subject is the bibliographee. A bibliography may be comprehensive or selective. Long bibliographies may be published serially or in book form. The person responsible for compiling a bibliography is the bibliographer.

Why reference?

Referencing is important to avoid plagiarism, to verify quotations

and to enable readers to follow up what you have written and

locate the cited author’s work.

Year:• Enter the year of publication as a four digit numeral, e.g. 2013.

• EndNote will automatically add “a” or “b”, etc. to the year if multiple references by the same author in the same year are included in the bibliography.

• If year of publication is unknown, enter “in press”, “in preparation”, or similar.

Rules for manual entry—contd.

Page 72: EndNoteX6 presentation

Title / Journal:

• If the title extends beyond one line, do not press enter at the end of a line - let the title wrap around to the next line.

• Do not underline or italicize titles - the EndNote output style used will take care of formatting issues.

• Do not enter a full stop at the end of the title.
