• They are the first responders in emergency situations

• They also assess, treat and transport all those requiring urgent medical care to hospital

• Respond to 911 emergency calls

• Perform medical services

• Transport patients to medical facilities

• Provide emergency medical assistance

• Bandage a wound

• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

• Drive their patients to a hospital

• Usually one EMT drives while the other takes care of the patient

• Each patient is securely strapped to the backboard

• Trained in using complex medical equipment like electrocardiograms and external defibrillators, etc

• Trained to administer certain drugs and medicines, when required

• Provide a report to the doctor when the patient arrives at the hospital

• Report - Actions taken by the EMT and the patient’s reaction to the treatment given

• Decontaminate ambulance interior

• Sterilize equipment in order to avoid infections or adverse reactions for future patients

At the end of the day, an EMTs job entails caring for people in dire need for medical assistance, to

the best of their abilities
