3rd Joint Meeting of the Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections (ARHAI) Networks
Quiz: metadata changes & online reports
Arno Muller (Contractor to ECDC), Klaus Weist for the
ARHAI Programme, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control
Stockholm, 11‒13 February 2015
Organised jointly with
Metadata changes
Most of the metadata changes follow changes in the reporting protocol:
• To take into account new data to be collected (adding variables)
• For simplification (removing variables)
But also
• For clarification (modifying variables)
We try to stick to some rules:
• Limiting the number/frequency of changes
• Not replacing old variables, but creating new ones
• Versioning of the metadata
ESAC-Net metadata changes
• Changes in the data source (AMCDS) RecordType:
• Simplifying the issue of the coverage of data
– variables were removed
– examples were given in the reporting protocol
• Adding some new categories for some variables
• Changes in the register (AMC) RecordType:
• New variables for:
– Inhalation form variable, due to DDD assigned by inhalation form
– Syrup variable, for catching antimicrobial consumption in children issue with this variable will be discussed tomorrow
• Names and descriptions of variables were modified for clarification

Future changes to the metadata and the reporting protocol
• Short term changes (2015)
• Issue with the syrup variable should be resolved for next data call. It should be just a clarification, no new variable.
• Mid term changes (2016-2017)
• At the moment, TESSy can not cope exactly with the methodology developed by the WHO Collaborating Centre for DDD for combined products (e.g. trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, antivirals…). Expected for 2016
• The future surveillance of antimicrobial consumption at the hospital level will require adding new record types. It depends on the results of the pilot survey Expected for 2016 or 2017
