E-Cigarettes Are Equivalent to Nicotine Patches,

New Study Reveals

According to a recently published study in The Lancet, a medical journal, electronic

cigarettes can be as effective as nicotine patches to help you kick your old habit of

smoking. Researchers from New Zealand have also found that by providing nicotine

sans the other toxins carried by cigarette smoke, electronic cigarettes stand more or

less the same chance in the matter for smoking cessation, and the success rate for

both e-cigs and nicotine patches is more or less the same. Moreover, studies also

indicate that people who actually failed to quit smoking were still able to reduce their

tobacco cigarette consumption by a considerable degree. Read Detail Study Here.

Considering the growing popularity of electronic cigarettes in many different countries

and the air of inconsistency and uncertainty that still hangs around them – it has

really become important to put them under larger scale trials for a longer duration of

time. Among the 657 smokers who participated in a 13 day long program, comparing

the effect of nicotine patches and electronic cigarettes on them, 7.3% of candidates

provided with e-cig completely abstained from nicotine smoking during the period,

while the corresponding number is 5.8% for smokers provided with nicotine patches.

Now this is certainly good news for smokers who are contemplating about quitting it.

There were a few more interesting findings too. Among all participants, who didn’t

completely stop smoking, e-cig users cut down more on their tobacco consumption.

About 1 in every 3 e-cig smokers during the program was found to carry vaping,

while that is only 1 in every ten people who continued using a nicotine patch to

abstain from tobacco smoking. E-cig users are also found more likely to recommend

these products for other smokers than the patch users.

Though these findings always suggest that the e-cig is more effective in the

cessation of smoking habit than the other available methods, but still more elaborate

research is required to be conducted on them. The percentage of people trying out e-

cigs to get rid of their smoking habit is also increasing. With the availability of more

encouraging data these products can certainly play a big role in normalizing non-

smoking for supporting and promoting interest in public health.

In the U.S., where electronic cigarettes sell in the highest numbers, there continues

to be no regulation from the F.D.A., though plans are surely on the table. More

information concerned with long-term safety of electronic cigarettes is still need to be

conducted. If e-cigs have any probable effect on the heart or the lungs, it must be

found quickly, since vaping is certainly growing in popularity, and so far proves to be

a much better alternative to traditional tobacco smoke.
