Starting a New Regular Segment on Nutrition and Supplementation

Nolan: Hey guys! Nolan here from BodSquadTraining.com and I’m here, obviously, at Nutrition Warehouse with the new nutrition and sport supplementation guru, Dean. Dean: How’s it going, mate? Nolan: Good, mate. How are you? Dean: Good. Nolan: So Dean, we here wanted to do a regular segment with Dean at Nutrition Warehouse for all the BodSquaders past, present and future. We want to get some feedback on what are some common questions people come in with, about nutrition and sport supplementation for their goals. So this is the first one of them, guys. It’s going to be a regular segment that we’re going to shoot across to you. So Dean, what are some of the questions you get when people come into the store?

Will Protein Powder Make Me Too Big? How Does It Affect the Body? Dean: Yeah. Cool. The biggest question we get when especially BodSquaders come in, we look after a lot of BodSquaders that come in here at Nutrition Warehouse, is why you would use a protein powder? And is that protein powder, obviously, going to make me big? Women are really concerned about protein powder… Nolan: It’s not working. Dean: Even with big guns like this. Nolan: It’s not working, Dean.

Dean: That’s the biggest thing we get. It’s the fear of excessive muscle gain by using protein powder. And then also alongside that, how many they can use if they do need a protein powder. So that’s probably the biggest question we get. What protein powder to use? How often can we use it? And will it make me bigger overnight? Nolan: Ok. And what are the answers? Dean: Simple answer is no. Protein won’t make you bigger overnight. What it will do is help you recover. It will keep your metabolism working a lot more efficiently. It will repair muscle tissue, but it won’t necessarily grow new muscle tissue, especially when you’re eating less calories to lose fat. So it’s basically there to help you maintain muscle mass which will help you improve your training, improve your fat loss, improve your recovery and improve even your appetite. Nolan: That’s a good one.

How to Use Your Protein Supplements? Dean: So protein powder is awesome. It’s the best nutrient to utilize within a fat loss diet. And as to how many we can use, we recommend anywhere between 1 and 3 and that depends on the person’s diet. Obviously, we want to promote food, whole food sources, lean meats, lean proteins, but if they need that little help with whey protein, then that’s the way to go. So usually 1-2, for most people. \ Nolan: Awesome. Because the common supplementation we put in for people is the very time for in the morning. At least we get them going started with a good protein shake. You recommend that? Dean: Absolutely. Number one time to recommend a whey protein in an Australian diet is first thing in the morning because not many of us want to eat meat. Or we don’t want to have one full egg separated with egg whites. Nolan: I don’t have time for that!

Dean: I don’t have time, so we’re all pretty busy. I use whey for my breakfast alongside some fruits or whatever else I use, whatever it is. Nolan: Blend it in? Dean: Yeah, you can do a blended shake with berries. You can do heaps of things with whey protein. You can mix it in yoghurt. You can do whatever you like. Cook with it, make protein pancakes. You name it. You can do what you like with whey protein. It’s a great little source. And it is food. Nolan: Awesome! That’s right. So, recapping, guys: Is protein shake going to make you big and muscly, Dean? Dean: No way. Nolan: No. Can I have more than one a day or three a day? Dean: Yeah, you can have as many as you require to fit your nutritional needs.
