OPERATIVE DENTISTRY PRESENTATION TOPIC: STEPS OF COMPOSITE RESTORATION

Steps of restorationIsolationEtching /Conditioning Washing /DryingBondingCuringDetermine shadeIncremental buildup & curing of composite Finish/polish

IsolationComposite is a highly technique sensitive material

Slight contamination or procedural error spoils the durability of the restoration

Perfect isolation of operating area is mandatory

The best isolation is rubber dam .

Etching /Conditioning Enamel Dentin

Both the tissues are etched with Phosphoric acid.

Enamel Etching To cut into the enamel surface through the action of acid

After washing

Etchant 34- 37 % phosphoric acid

Liquid Gel

Applying Etchant Roughens the surface by removing calcium from enamel .we apply etchant on enamel for 30 seconds and on dentine for 15 seconds.

Washing and Drying Washing is performed with triple syringe for 5-10 seconds and then drying

BondingBonding agents are unfilled resins that flow into the micro channels and form an interlocking system.

It is available in liquid form

Application of bondApply bonding agent with help of a small brush

curing

20 seconds

Determine shade

LINER AND BASEIf after cavity preparation the remaining dentine thickness (RDT) is between 0.5 and 1.5mm a resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI) base is used. IF RDT is less than 0.5mm a calcium hydroxide liner should be applied to the deepest aspect of the preparation then protected with an RMGI base prior to adhesive placement .

Incremental buildup & curing of compositeIt is important to place the composite incrementally to maximize the polymerization depth of cure and possibly to reduce the negative effects of polymerization shrinkage.Cure each increment for 20 sec.

Finishing and polishing

Tungsten carbide finishing bur is used to contour the marginal ridge
